Political System

This one tends to confuse Foreigners. I'll quote the governments official explanation.

"Canada is a constitutional monarchy and a federal state with a democratic system of government. The Parliament of Canada, in Ottawa, consists of the House of Commons, whose members are elected, and the Senate, whose members are appointed. On average, Members of Parliament are elected every four years."

Charter of Rights and Freedoms

This one has confused some Canadians (shame shame!) Canada's Constitution contains a Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which sets out certain fundamental freedoms These include equality rights, mobility rights and legal rights, together with freedoms such as speech, association and peaceful assembly. I have studied both the American and Canadian constitutions and they are extremely similar. The notion that Americans are MORE free then Canadians is a myth.

Population

In 2000, Canada's population was 30.7 million. 77 percent, live in cities and towns.

Provinces and Territories

Canada has ten provinces and three territories, each with its own capital city: Alberta (Edmonton); British Columbia (Victoria); Manitoba (Winnipeg); New Brunswick (Fredericton); Newfoundland (St. John's); Nova Scotia (Halifax); Ontario (Toronto); Prince Edward Island (Charlottetown); Quebec (Quebec City); Saskatchewan (Regina); Northwest Territories (Yellowknife); Nunavut (Iqaluit); and Yukon Territory (Whitehorse).

Land Mass

Canada is the world's second-largest country (9 093 507 km2). The Russian Federation is the largest.

Climate

We have a really diverse landscape. Polar icecaps to the north along with arctic tundra. Desert (yes we have deserts!), Lush rain forests, majestic seascapes, fertile prairies and breathtaking mountain ranges. Tempatures vary depending on the region. Canada's most populous regions, which are close to the U.S. border, enjoy four distinct seasons. Mount Logan in the Yukon is Canada's tallest peak. (FYI Stockwell Day named his son for this) 5 959 metres. 7.6 percent of the Canadian landmass is lakes there is over 2 million of them!

Languages

Canada has two official languages, English, the mother tongue of about 59 percent of Canadians, and French, the first language of 23 percent. 18 percent have  more than one mother tongue  English or French, such as Chinese, Italian, German, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Ukrainian, Arabic, Dutch, Tagalog, Greek, Vietnamese, Cree, Inuktitut, or other languages. Canada's federal institutions reflect the equality of its two official languages by offering bilingual services.
