Royal Anthem

"God Save The Queen"

"God Save The Queen" has no legal status in Canada, although it is considered as the royal anthem, to be played in the presence of members of the Royal Family or as part of the salute accorded to the Governor General and the lieutenant governors. This is just a way of showing our respect.

The song was used as an expression of personal loyalty to the king and translated it was used in Prussia, Denmark, and in Russia until 1833 when Czar Nicholas commissioned a new version. It has also been used in Sweden, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the United States

  • God save our gracious Queen
    Long live our noble Queen,
    God save the Queen:
    Send her victorious,
    Happy and glorious,
    Long to reign over us:
    God save the Queen.

  • O Lord, our God, arise,
    Scatter thine enemies,
    And make them fall:
    Confound their politics,
    Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On thee our hopes we fix:
    God save us all.

  • Thy choicest gifts in store,
    On her be pleased to pour;
    Long may she reign:
    May she defend our laws,
    And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
    God save the Queen.
